Economic Growth Council Forum Meeting Part 1

Kingston, 26 January 2017 – The Economic Growth Council (EGC) will on Thursday, January 26, 2017, present its first public report to the nation.

The report, covering the period September – December 2016, will be broadcast live on CVM and Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ) at 6:00pm with a delayed broadcast at 8:30pm on TVJ.

This is the first of quarterly reports the EGC will make and will focus on deliverables relative to growth strategies included in the Stand By Agreement signed between the Government of Jamaica and the International Monetary Fund in 2016.

The initiatives were among eight presented by the EGC to the Jamaican Cabinet in September 2016, as follows:

  • Maintain macro economic stability and pursue debt reduction
  • Improve citizen security and public safety
  • Improve access to finance
  • Pursue bureaucratic reform to improve the business environment
  • Stimulate greater asset utilization
  • Build human capital
  • Harness the power of the Diaspora
  • Catalyse implementation of strategic projects

The EGC was established by the Most Hon.  Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica April 2016 chaired by Hon. Michael Lee-Chin, O.J.  Other members of the EGC are Ambassador Dr. Nigel Clarke, Vice Chairman; Senator Kavan Gayle, O.D.; Phillip Gore, O.D.; Hon. Hugh C.  Hart, O.J.; Patrick Hylton, C.D.; Hon. Noel Hylton, O.J.; Mrs. Paula Kerr-Jarrett; Mrs. Pat Ramsay, O.D.; Adam Stewart, C.D. and Maureen Denton, Executive Director/Head of Secretariat.
