Athlete development seminar on this weekend
On Saturday, BBM Sports Management in conjunction with the Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SPORTT), will be hosting the first athlete development seminar of its kind at the Management Lecture Theatre at the University of the West Indies (UWI).
The seminar will be targeting senior national athletes of all disciplines and will cover important areas that are not often touched by traditional developmental seminars including “athlete branding and fundraising”, “public speaking and press management” and “professional etiquette”.
General manager of BBM, Edson Breedy, urged athletes to “Come learn how to market yourself as an athlete, develop skill sets that will facilitate more sponsorship opportunities and also help you represent your country with grace and confidence.”
“As we all know the country is in a recession and athletes and National Sporting Organisations (NSOs) are definitely feeling the pinch when it comes to funding and sponsorships, so its time for athletes to become more creative and proactive in how they pursue the development of their public profile and also in how they go about generating value for potential sponsors,” said Breedy.
Athletes Cleopatra Borel and Andrew Lewis are expected be in attendance. Read more
