Investigative Journalism Workshop

Carla Minet Santos, executive director at the Center for Investigative Journalism in Puerto Rico, enjoys a discussion with Professor Hopeton Dunn (left), director of the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC); and Professor Trevor Munroe, executive director of National Integrity Action (NIA), last Saturday at the opening of an investigative journalism workshop hosted by CARIMAC and NIA at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus, in Kingston.

Santos was the keynote speaker at the workshop, which will continue this Saturday and Sunday at the CARIMAC Annex II building. The workshop, which is free of charge, is examining the challenges faced by investigative journalists and analysing the opportunities for developing a body of investigative stories. Also being discussed are the impact of technology on investigative journalism, the importance of and effective use of the Access To Information Act, and the legal and ethical framework within which investigative journalism is practised. The organisers are encouraging all journalists to make use of the workshop. Read more
