Law students seek to address sexual assault on UWI campus

Unreported cases of sexual assault on the University of the West Indies, Mona campus has prompted law students at the institution to organise a seminar on violence against women.

According to an advisory from organiser Alaina Reid, a LLB student at the institution, “the drive to organise this event was strengthened by the atrocities that are now being reported daily in the news”.

Titled ‘Let’s Talk: A Seminar on Violence against Women’, the event aims to provide insight and guidelines on curtailing attacks on women.

The organisers have invited Commissioner of the Independent Commission of Investigations Terrence Williams and his team; Student Services and Development Manager of Mary Seacole Hall Nadeen Spence; and Dr Gillian Mason, a lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work and member of Woman Inc, to speak at the seminar.

The student initiative, which is supported by the Mona Law Society, will take place on February 24 in the Faculty of Law building at 2:00 pm. Read more
