Sir Hilary: Time for fresh guard
AS BARBADOS CELEBRATES 50 years of Independence, one of its most respected academics is advising that the current model for development has become obsolete.
The assessment from Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, Sir Hilary Beckles, came a day after former Prime Minister Owen Arthur expressed a similar view.
Delivering the final lecture in an 11-part series to commemorate the country’s Independence, the Barbadian historian said on Thursday night that the country needs to shift focus from the current “race-based model” to one that embraces the masses, a termed he described as a “political movement of the excluded”.
