St Augustine regain UWI swim crown

THE St Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) has regained the swim championship, dethroning Mona Campus, also their nearest rivals, in the current UWI Inter Campus Games now underway in Barbados.

At the end of the swim meet yesterday, at the Aquatic Centre, Christ Church in Barbados, St Augustine tallied 325 points with Mona 280, and Cave Hill Campus 239. Top male swimmer was St Augustine’s Nicholas Washington who scored 24 points. He was followed by team mates Jeron O’Brien 23, and Sachin Sankar 22.

S Augustine’s Theana Hay was the third top female swimmer scoring 19 points. The first and second place went to Zabrina Holder of Cave Hill Campus (28 points) and Octivia Gray of Mona Campus (25). St Augustine held the overall swim championship titles in 2013, and 2011.

Coach Maurice Faria told Newsday that the team was relieved to recapture the title. The UWI Inter Campus Games are held biennially. Read more
