SUNY professor says training with UWI will lead to more effective policies

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Dr Jason Russell, Chair of the Graduate Liberal Arts and Science Programme at the Empire State College, SUNY, in New York, says that collaboration between SUNY and the University of the West Indies (UWI) will lead to more effective policy making.

‘“Opportunities for collaboration through the newly established SUNY/ UWI Centre for Leadership and Sustainable Development will help to craft more effective policy,” said Dr Russell, who is among a number of scholars scheduled to make representations at a forum webinar on “Productivity, Public Sector Transformation and Economic Growth” at the UWI on Saturday.

The Hugh Lawson Shearer Trade Union Education Institute (HLSTUEI), UWI Open Campus in collaboration with Empire State College, State University of New York (SUNY) will be hosting the forum webinar.

Other presenters will be: Ian Manborde, Programme Coordinator of the MA in Global Labour and Social Change at Ruskin College in the United Kingdom; Ambassador Nigel Clarke, Deputy Chairman of Jamaica’s Economic Growth Council; Dr Constant Lonkeng Ngouana, IMF Resident Representative for Jamaica; and Professor Larry Savage, Director of the Brock University Centre for Labour Studies, in Canada.
