The UWI at 70: The Next Phase Press Conference

The Office of the Vice-Chancellor at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is hosting a regional press conference on Friday, June 22, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. Eastern Caribbean time/10:30 a.m. Jamaica time. The conference themed, The UWI at 70: The Next Phase will be hosted by Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles from The UWI’s Regional Headquarters in Mona, Jamaica, who will be joined by Principals of the Cave Hill, Mona, St. Augustine and Open campuses (in person or remotely via video-conferencing).

As The UWI celebrates its 70 years of service and leadership across the Caribbean region, the anniversary milestone presents an opportunity for the regional institution to rebrand, re-engineer, and project its role and revised identity, and vision for its future. The UWI has made an earnest start in looking toward its future, starting with the 2017–2022 “Triple A” Strategic Plan which focuses on its global innovations and the economic transformation of the region captured in the theme: “Revitalizing Caribbean Development”.

In pursuit of this, The UWI places greater emphasis on becoming more accessible and affordable to the people of the region and aligning more effectively with the private sector and entrepreneurship. To this end, the press conference is intended to facilitate a conversation about The UWI’s next phase. Vice-Chancellor Beckles will articulate the University’s overall strategic vision and each Campus Principal will present the vision and overview of operational plans for their respective campuses.
