UWI student marks birthday with benefit concert

Some 24-year-olds might choose to ring in their birthday at a restaurant or hotel, partying at a club or snapping selfies on their way to that road trip they have been planning for months. However, when the clock strikes 12 on February 9, Jerahmeel James will mark his 24th birthday by finalising plans for ‘The Art of Kindness’.

The Art of Kindness, which is being organised by James, is a charity event that will take the form of a performing arts concert aimed at raising funds to assist the Escarpment Road Basic School.

“The specific cause is to build a resource room for the Escarpment Road Basic School,” James said, adding that the school also needs a general facelift.

His inspiration, he said, came from 22-year-old Eleanor Terrelonge who asked her friends to do 22 random acts of kindness to mark her 22nd birthday. This, James said, resonated with him. He therefore decided in December to follow in her footsteps and give back for his birthday. Read more
