UWI students to receive scholarship payments today
Recipients of the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Programme who are pursuing studies at the University of the West Indies (UWI) have been assured that they will receive their funds today.
Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Programme Maurice Merchant said that the Government of Antigua & Barbuda was aware of the students’ financial situation and renegotiated the due date of final payments for their first semester with UWI.
“When we realised that our initial due date for meeting the obligations of students on partial scholarships, we wrote to the university indicating our challenges and advised that the new due date for these first funds be December 12,” Merchant said in an OBSERVER media interview.
He also said that this would have also allowed for students with outstanding balances on their partial scholarships to have the opportunity to write their final exams for the semester.
“UWI has responded and we did that to ensure that any student who has outstanding balances having utilised their own funds from the very beginning, which we expected, I believe that all of the students at UWI would have been able to sit their final exams for this term,” he explained. Read more
